Butter Chicken Recipe
Butter chicken is a popular Indian dish that originated in Punjab. It is made with marinated chicken cooked in a creamy tomato-based sauce, with a blend of Indian spices and butter. The dish is usually served with rice or naan bread.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup plain full-fat yogurt
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp garam masala
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
- 1 can (14 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken, yogurt, ginger paste, and garlic paste. Mix well and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and chili powder to the pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.
Pour the tomato puree into the pan and stir well. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes.
Add the heavy cream and salt to taste. Stir well and cook for another 5 minutes.
Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
Serving suggestions
Butter chicken pairs well with steamed rice, naan bread or roti. You can also add a side of vegetables, such as roasted cauliflower or sautéed spinach. Garnish with fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime for added flavor.
