How to make Halwa Poori at Home?
Halwa Poori is a popular breakfast dish in South Asia, particularly in Pakistan and India. It consists of two components: Poori, which is a deep-fried bread, and Halwa, a sweet pudding made from semolina, sugar, and ghee (clarified butter). It is often served with Chana Masala (spicy chickpeas) and Aloo Bhujia (spicy potatoes) as a side dish. Halwa Poori is a delicious, hearty and filling meal that is enjoyed by many people in the region.
Ingredients For Poori
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of ghee or oil
- Water (as needed)
- Oil (for frying)
Ingredients For Halwa
- 1 cup of semolina
- 1/2 cup of ghee or butter
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 cups of water
- 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder
- 1/4 cup of chopped nuts (optional)
Recipe:
In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp sugar, and 1/2 tsp baking powder. Mix well.
Add 1/4 cup of oil and mix until the flour mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add warm water while mixing until the dough comes together.
In a pan, add 2 cups of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 1/4 tsp of cardamom powder. Bring it to a boil and then let it simmer until the sugar syrup thickens.
In another pan, heat 1/4 cup of ghee and add 1 cup of semolina. Roast the semolina until it turns golden brown.
Add the sugar syrup to the semolina and continue to stir until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan. Add 1/4 cup of chopped nuts and mix well.
In a deep fryer or a pan, heat oil for frying. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and roll them into circles.
Deep-fry the pooris until they turn golden brown and crispy. Serve hot with the halwa. Enjoy your Halwa Poori!
